A memorable stay in South Surrey, White Rock, BC

Winter is done! & and Spring is here! Spring is a time when you realise that you are just over a quarter done from the start of the new year and it's time to recoup. Spring is one of the first long breaks of the year and you want to make it a memorable one where you spend time with friends, family and nature to relax and enjoy. The city of White Rock in South Surrey, BC is a perfect place to unwind and do so! Here are a list of thing you can see and do to make it a memorable experience.

THE BEACH:

White Rock's beaches offer something for everyone! With 8 km (4.9 miles) of sand and warm shallow waters you're sure to find that perfect spot to pitch your umbrella. The Best Western Peace Arch hotel is located only a 10 min drive from the beach and is conveniently located close to restaurants as well.

Among the best beaches in the region, the warm, protected, water of Semiahmoo Bay provides a safe area for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking. And when the tide goes out, the beach transforms into a magical place to explore tide pools, try your hand at skimboarding, fly a kite or build a sandcastle.

THE PIER:

White Rock Beach is divided into "East Beach" and "West Beach", separated by a rise in the shoreline that the locals call "the hump".

West Beach is home to White Rock's famous pier, where it's not uncommon to see people jumping into the deep, warm waters below, or dropping a line to try their luck at crabbing. The West Beach is only a 10 minute drive to one of White Rock Hotels, The Best Western Peace arch inn, South Surrey.

East Beach tends to be a little quieter and appeals to families looking to spend a relaxing day at the beach building sandcastles and enjoying picnic lunches. Walk to the end to see local fishermen's daily catches and bask in the impressive views of the coastal mountains and the San Juan Islands. Take an after dinner stroll to see breathtaking sunsets and feel the ocean's warm breeze.

THE WHITE ROCK:

The "white rock", for which the community is named, is located along West Beach. The rock maintains its pristine white colour with help from staff from the City of White Rock and is a favourite spot for photographs. Standing more than 4 metres high and weighing a reported 486 tonnes, the rock is likely a glacial deposit left behind when the glaciers receded thousands of years ago. Known as P'Quals by the Semiahmoo First Nation, the legend of P'Quals (the "white rock") was shared with the White Rock Museum by Grand Chief Bernard Charles, and we have shared it below with the permission of the museum.

THE PROMENADE:

White Rock promenade runs almost the entire length of the beach, and provides lots of ways to get to the beach and attractions. Take your time and stroll from one end to the other, making sure to stop and check out the Grand Chief Bernard Charles Memorial Plaza that speaks to the communities strong ties to the Semiahmoo First Nation.

WHITE ROCK MUSEUM:

Take a trip down memory lane inside this fascinating museum, where you'll learn about the community's history and railway roots. Located next to the White Rock Pier and housed in a historic train station that was built by the Great Northern Railway in 1913, the building houses a small but comprehensive collection of artifacts and photographs that highlight the history of the area. The museum is home to a must-see gift shop and offers award-winning exhibits, guided historic walking tours and special events.

We hope the above has helped us direct you and your loved ones towards a memorable time well spent together in White Rock, BC.
